A participatory short documentary capturing how people around the world—artists, parents, children, and essential workers—faced loneliness and found resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Filmed across 11 countries, the film features voices from the U.S., U.K., Italy, Russia, Taiwan, Japan, China, Malaysia, Germany, Ireland, and the Netherlands.
The short documentary Alone/Together will be available to stream online from September 20–29, 205. A live discussion with Film Director Hsuan Yu Pan, Producer Nancy Wolfe, and special guest Tony Filanowski, LCSW, CASAC, will be held on September 27 at 2PM.
Alone/Together is a participatory documentary that captures how people around the world—artists, parents, children, and essential workers—faced isolation and found resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Filmed across 11 countries, it amplifies voices from the U.S., U.K., Italy, Russia, Taiwan, Japan, China, Malaysia, Germany, Ireland, and the Netherlands. The film has been featured at the Social Impact Film Festival (NYC & LA), Workers Unite!
Film Festival (NYC), and Portobello Film Festival (London, UK). Through intimate self-recorded moments and personal reflections, Alone/Together explores the shared challenges of loneliness and the creative ways people built connection and strength during uncertain times.
Hsuan Yu Pan is a documentary filmmaker based in New York whose work explores themes of immigration, identity, and mental health. For over 14 years, she has crafted stories that center on diverse perspectives and lived experiences, with a particular strength in storytelling and editing.
Her career began with extensive collaborations at BRIC TV, where her work on the BK Live series honed her skills in segment production and editorial direction. Since then, she has continued to develop a body of work that reflects her commitment to authentic storytelling and amplifying the voices of underrepresented individuals.
Through both short- and long-form documentaries, Pan brings a thoughtful and creative approach to capturing the resilience, complexity, and humanity of the communities she films.
