About the Event

Join Master Teacher Funmilayo Chesney for a transformative community experience that blends traditional Congolese dance, live drumming, music, and guided meditation. Rooted in African cultural traditions, these free classes create a welcoming space where people of all ages and abilities can move, connect, heal, and build community.

Participants will experience the physical, emotional, and social benefits of movement while celebrating culture, reducing stress, increasing joy, and fostering a sense of belonging. Live drumming and traditional movement inspire self-expression, wellness, and collective healing in an uplifting, inclusive environment.

Healing in Motion demonstrates the power of the arts as medicine—promoting health, resilience, and
community through the healing traditions of the African diaspora.

About the Collaborating Organizations

Little Sun People Early Learning Center is a Brooklyn-based early childhood education program dedicated to nurturing the intellectual, creative, social, and emotional development of young children through culturally responsive, arts-integrated learning. The school provides a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where children, families, and educators thrive together.

Through Healing in Motion, the school serves as the host site, providing a welcoming space for free Congolese dance classes that promote health, cultural connection, intergenerational learning, and community healing through traditional movement, live drumming, music, and meditation.
