Nurturing Growth Through Creative Arts Therapies Across the Lifespan

The Creative Arts Therapy team at NYU Langone Health will be presenting how Art, Drama and Music Therapy is clinically applied across the lifespan. Personal case studies will be discussed and examined by each presenter from throughout the institution including at Hassenfeld Children's Hospital, the medical intensive care unit and acute rehabilitation.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn how to collaborate with the client and/or family/care partner and other professionals for treatment planning (e.g., goals, treatment preferences).
  • Participants will understand cultural responsiveness and humility in treatment planning.
  • Participants will understand how to respect all aspects of self-reported and expressed personhood and humanness (e.g., racial and ethnic identity, cultural values, spiritual/religious beliefs) during treatment implementation.

With nearly a decade of experience as a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, Elizabeth Ingram, MS, MT-BC, LCAT supports children, adolescents, and young adults from birth through age 22 who are navigating a wide range of medical, developmental, and emotional challenges. She has particular expertise in grief and bereavement care, providing compassionate support to patients and families from the bedside through postmortem bereavement services. In addition to her work with children and families, Elizabeth also works closely with adults coping with anticipatory grief, loss, and the complex emotions that accompany bereavement. Through a creative, strengths-based approach, she helps individuals and families process difficult experiences, build resilience, and find meaningful pathways toward healing and connection. Elizabeth is a graduate of Molloy University and completed her advanced certifications at Molloy University and Florida State University.

Melissa Wasserman, MM, MT-BC is a Board-Certified Music Therapist with clinical experience spanning private practice, special education, and pediatric healthcare settings. She graduated from Berklee College of Music with a dual undergraduate degree in Songwriting and Music Therapy and received her Masters Degree in Music Therapy from Colorado State University. Throughout her career, she has worked with diverse populations, developing specialized expertise in supporting children with developmental delays through evidence-based music therapy interventions. Melissa is passionate about fostering communication, self-expression, and meaningful connection for children facing developmental and medical challenges. Her work explores the unique role of music therapy in helping children find their voice, build relationships, and enhance their quality of life across clinical settings.

Hanna Rosenberg, MA, RDT, LCAT is a Drama Therapist at Hassenfeld Children's Hospital at NYU Langone Health. She received her BFA in Acting from The Hartt School and her Masters Degree in Drama Thearpy from New York University. Hanna specializes in working with children, adolescents, and families navigating chronic illness, acute medical conditions, behavioral health concerns, and grief.  In addition to her clinical work, Hanna serves as a clinical supervisor in partnership with the Drama Therapy Master’s Program at New York University Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Her work explores the intersection of pediatric medical trauma, family-centered care, and therapeutic filmmaking, emphasizing the unique capacity of creative arts therapy to cultivate resilience throughout the lifespan.

Daniel Belnavis, MA, MT-BC, CAT-LP is a music therapist and holds a limited permit in creative arts therapy. He obtained his Master of Arts in Music Therapy from New York University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from the University of Michigan. Daniel has experience working with patients across the life span; Currently working as a music therapist at Hackensack Meridian Health’s Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital, and previously working as a MICU music therapist at NYU Langone Health. No matter what setting he is working within, Daniel is committed to creating a nurturing, therapeutic environment characterized by warmth, acceptance, and mutual respect. He strives to meet his patients where they are and to honor their unique, lived experiences. As a Black, gay therapist, Daniel is deeply passionate about social justice and LGBTQIA+ affirming care, striving to provide empathetic support to individuals marginalized by sociocultural and systemic inequalities.

Liza Wu, MA, MT-BC, LCAT is a Board-Certified Music Therapist and Licensed Creative Arts Therapist in New York State. She received her Masters Degree in Music Therapy from New York University, with a focus on psychodynamic and humanistic psychotherapy. She completed a three-year intensive training in advanced music psychotherapy and, most recently, additional training in Neurologic Music Therapy. She works in adult inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient pediatric rehabilitation at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital.

Jenna Hartom, MPS, LCAT, ATR-BC, ATCS has a BS in Psychology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Masters Degree in Art Therapy and Creativity Development from Pratt Institute. She is a New York State Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, nationally registered, Board-Certified Art Therapist, and art therapy credentialed supervisor with 20 years of experience spanning community and medical settings as well as private practice. Her current role is at Rusk Rehabilitation in the adult acute, medically complex unit at NYU Langone’s Tisch Hospital.

Continuing Education Credits

This event is presented in collaboration with the NYU Creative Arts Therapies Consortium (CEU # 0062) as well as part of UNGA Healing Arts Week, a New York City-wide celebration of arts and health during the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly, produced by the Jameel Arts & Health Lab in collaboration with the World Health Organization. 6 LCAT CEUs will be provided.
