Arts for the Blues is an evidence‑based, group‑based creative‑arts psychotherapy program developed by Edge Hill University and the University of Salford to support people experiencing depression, low mood, and anxiety. Over a series of sessions, participants engage in visual art, gentle movement, creative writing, music‑making, and drama within a four‑stage therapeutic framework designed to build trust, explore strengths, address difficulties, and foster closure. Rigorous evaluations have demonstrated significant reductions in depressive and anxiety symptoms, improved quality of life, and enhanced social engagement. Adaptable for delivery in NHS services, community settings, schools, and online, Arts for the Blues is supported by a comprehensive implementation toolkit that guides organizations and practitioners through training, scaling, ethical evaluation, and ongoing support.
